Jamie Owens’s work explores the mind-body connection, trauma recovery, and self-exploration from an intersectional feminist perspective. Her intuitive painting practice invites a spiritual element into her art-making, while her depiction of the human body draws on the rigorous education in anatomy that she received as an MFA student at The New York Academy of Art. She uses the female nude to express her emotional and psychological experience through distorted gestures and movement within the composition. Jamie was born and raised in the Hudson Valley of upstate New York, where she studied Visual Arts at SUNY New Paltz. Jamie worked within the intersection of art and mental health within her local community and considers activism as a part of her artistic practice.
